Building Service Worker Training - XBUS 1356

There is an industry need to have educated, trained, and skilled Building Service Workers that can effectively perform a clean, disinfect, and sanitize, especially given the COVID-19 pandemic, and for those individuals to work as safely as possible to prevent virus transmission in our workplaces and wider communities. This course is designed to keep things clean and prevent future infectious disease outbreaks.

Course Outline

Core Training
This consists of 15-days of blended virtual face-to-face training and on-site skills development:
  1. General Hazard Identification and Control
  2. General Personal Protective Equipment & Clothing: The Basics
  3. Respiratory Protection Principles
  4. Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (2015) 
  5. “Regular” Cleaning Principles
  6. Introduction to Infectious Disease Outbreaks/Pandemics
  7. Infectious Disease-Related Cleaning, Sanitizing, Disinfecting
  8. Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations, Code -Overview
  9. Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee
  10. Basic Facility Maintenance and repair

Standards
Building Service Worker Content is based on the following industry standards of Infection Prevention and Control:
  • Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Z317.13.17 Infection Control During Renovation and Maintenance of Health Care Facilities
  • CSA 317.12 Cleaning and Disinfection of Health Care Facilities
  • Provincial Infectious Diseases Advisory Committee (PIDAC): Best Practices for Environmental Cleaning for Prevention and Control of Infections in all Health Care Settings
  • Infection Prevention and Control Canada (IPAC)-Canada.org Best Practices for Infection Control
