The diverse range of continuing education healthcare courses offered by NorQuest College often combine online learning with hands-on practical skills components, with some being offered exclusively online and others being a hybrid (combination of in-person and online delivery) model.

The healthcare courses offered by NorQuest teach you how to properly obtain a health-care history and perform physical examinations, recognize life-threatening emergencies, adapt to working environments at family physician clinics, how to properly work in environments where bloodborne pathogens are exposed, and much more.

Curriculum includes the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS).

XHLT 1021–CPNRE Prep Workshop 1

The CPNRE Prep Workshop is a one-day course that will prepare you to write the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Exam, including study skills, exam structure, and review.

XHLT 1023–Human Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure

The Human Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure (HBPE) professional development course is designed to provide you with the safe work practices and knowledge needed to work in environments where you may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens.

XHLT 1200–Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers

In the Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers skills training course, you will learn how to recognize a wide variety of potentially life-threatening emergencies and how to react to them in a professional manner. 

XHLT 1500–Adult Health Assessment for Nurses

The Adult Health Assessment for Nurses professional development course is designed to enhance your existing nursing knowledge by teaching theory and skills that will allow you to perform health assessments on healthy adult patients.

XHLT 1510–Medication Administration: Intramuscular and Intradermal Injections

The Medication Administration: Intramuscular and Intradermal Injections health training course will give you the practical workplace skills needed to be able to safely and effectively administer medications and treatments through both intramuscular and intradermal routes.

XHLT 1520–Infusion Therapy for Nurses

Infusion Therapy for Nurses is a comprehensive professional development course that will build on your existing nursing and healthcare knowledge by teaching you best practices relating to infusion therapy, intravenous therapy, subcutaneous infusion therapy (hypodermoclysis), and blood transfusions. 

XHLT 1530–Pharmacology Therapeutics and Medication Administration

The Pharmacology Therapeutics and Medication Administration health training course is designed to enhance your existing nursing knowledge by teaching you further theory and applied skills based on best evidence relating to pharmacology therapeutics and medication administration.

XHLT 1540–Collaborative Care Clinical Foundations

In the Collaborative Care Clinical Foundations health training course, you will be equipped with the knowledge and practical skills required by non-physician health care professionals to perform processes for adapting to new work environments in primary care networks and family physician clinics. 

XHLT 1541–Collaborative Care – Team-based Care

High-quality, person-centred health-care services require skills that are inherent to a collaborative practice model.

Collaborative care provides the opportunity to achieve improved health outcomes as the care team and patient make a shift from traditionally compartmentalized approaches to treatment.

XHLT 1550–Introduction to Gerontology

In the Introduction to Gerontology health studies course, you will be introduced to the theories of aging in Canada, including the many physiological and life changes that come with aging. You will also learn about Canada’s diverse aging population and the important role of health professionals in gerontological nursing.

XHLT 1560 - Social Media for Healthcare Professionals

The Social Media for Healthcare Professionals continuing studies course is designed to teach modern healthcare providers the basics of popular social media platforms and how they can benefit the healthcare field. 

XHLT 1590–Introduction to Health Leadership

The health system is changing—there are strains on human resources, perpetual revising of funding models, and an increased emphasis on integration and primary care.

Health-care providers are being called to increase their scope of care while delivering excellent services to all clients.
