Preparing you for an exciting career as a Fire Officer

This course is designed for the fire officer who is ready to assume a greater leadership role at a supervisory or managerial level within the department.

Topics include the organization of local government; enabling and regulatory legislation and the law-making process at the local, state/provincial, and federal levels; the functions of other bureaus, divisions, agencies, and organizations, and their roles and responsibilities that relate to the fire service; and intergovernmental and interagency cooperation.

This certification course will prepare you for management level positions by teaching you the principles of the law-making process at all levels from local to federal, the functions of other official agencies and organizations and their relationship with the fire service, as well as the important role of intergovernmental and interagency cooperation between bureaus and other officiating organizations. 


Approximately 30 – 40 hours of online learning; up to 26 weeks to complete


Theory component is online; practical skills are assignment based.

  • NFPA 472–Awareness
  • NFPA 472–Operations
  • NFPA 1001–Level I & II
  • NFPA 1021–Level I
  • NFPA 1041–Level I
  • Exam and Evaluation must be completed in Alberta
